In 1175 Scarlet Worm, Carmen Tornambe shares that in Psalm 22:6, a prophecy about Jesus Christ, the word translated "worm" is the Hebrew word tôwlāʿ. This is the female of the species of worm called coccus ilicis. The worm sacrifices herself on a tree; not leaving that tree; but covers and protects her soon-to-be newborns. What is special about this worm is that she provides the ancient red dye used in the temple and by royalty. The worm also has a connection to sin. Carmen shows us how that understanding this information opens up a number of scripture as we see the comparison between Jesus Christ and the lowly worm.

Note: All scripture is from the King James Version unless otherwise noted. NIV indicates The New International Version, NKJV indicates the New King James Version, ASV means the American Standard Version, BBE means the Bible in Basic English, DBY means the Darby translation,  NAU means the American Standard Version, 1995 Edition, and NAB means the New American Bible translation.
