This teaching is a study on the fig tree. The fig tree was a symbol that represented Israel, specifically their spiritual state with God. We see the symbol used figuratively in both the Old and the New Testament. Jeremiah uses a basket of good and a basket of bad figs. Jesus curses a fig tree that had no fruit. It's understood as God's rejection of Israel because the religious leadership were all show and no heart.
