Kingdom of heaven

Thy Kingdom Come

Go to the previous issue.

Ever since the dawn of creation God has always longed for a family. Someone to love and care for, someone to be his vice regent to rule, and reign in kingly fashion over part of his creation the earth.

Genesis 1:1 1In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. 2And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

Here we see that the earth was without form and void and darkness was upon the face of the deep.

Isaiah 45:18 For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the LORD; and there is none else.

And yet Isaiah informs us that God DID NOT create the earth in vain and without form.

Even before the creation of planet earth as we know it the adversary had rebelled and destroyed our planet.

Isaiah 14:12-13 12How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! 13For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:

Isaiah also informed us that Lucifer fell from heaven.

YLT Isaiah 14:12 How hast thou fallen from the heavens, O shining one, son of the dawn! Thou hast been cut down to earth, O weakener of nations.

When Lucifer was cast out of heaven, he fell to the earth and his presence was reflected on God's creation. Without form and void darkness was upon the face of the deep and the planet suffered.

God began to clean up the mess that Lucifer and his demons had made. The first thing God said was, "Let there be light."

Genesis 1:3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

The father then prepared the earth for his first man and woman, setting them in the Garden of Eden to fill the earth with their offspring and rule over all of God's creation in kingly fashion.

Once again Lucifer now referred to as the serpent after his rebellion against God interfered with God's creation.

NIV Genesis 3:1-7 1Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, "Did God really say, 'You must not eat from any tree in the garden?'"2The woman said to the serpent, "We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, 3but God did say, 'You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.'" 4"You will not surely die," the serpent said to the woman. 5"For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil." 6When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. 7Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.

Genesis 3:14-15 14And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life: 15And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

And from this point on the subject of the Word of God was the coming seed. All of the patriarchs prophets, believers, and godly kings looked for and spoke of the one to come.

This coming seed would restore God's original kingdom back to mankind.

The reign of peace and prosperity of the godly kings in the Old Testament were only a foreshadow of the one who would come and sit on the throne of his father David.

2 Chronicles 13:5 Ought ye not to know that the LORD God of Israel gave the kingdom over Israel to David for ever, even to him and to his sons by a covenant of salt?

The kingdom that was given to David and his son’s was an everlasting kingdom.

Isaiah 9:6-7 6For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. 7Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.

The prophecies spoke of the coming seed, the King of the kingdom who would sit on the throne of David in this kingdom forever.

Acts 2:29-30 29Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day. 30Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne;

This verse identifies that the one who would sit on David's throne would be called the Christ

Acts 2:25-27 25For David speaketh concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved: 26Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope: 27Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

Acts 2:36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.

Could the word be any clearer? The promised seed, the coming king, the one who would sit on David's throne, the Christ was Jesus of Nazareth.

Acts 2:22 Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know:

Luke 1:26-33 26And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, 27To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary. 28And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lordis with thee: blessed art thou among women. 29And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be. 30And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. 31And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. 32He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: 33And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.

Jesus would not only save all who believed from their sins and grant them everlasting Life, he was the long awaited King of the kingdom.

John 3:16-17 16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

1 Chronicles 22:10 He shall build an house for my name; and he shall be my son, and I will be his father; and I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel for ever.

The one who would rule over the kingdom was called God's son.

Luke 1:34-35 34Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? 35And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

This holiday season when you reflect on the Christmas story of this child born King of the Jews, remember that this child, Jesus, was the Christ, the one who is the rightful heir to the throne of David his father. There is a day coming in the future where He will sit on the throne of his father David and rule in the kingdom of God.

1 Thessalonians 4:17-18 17Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. 18Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

Comfort yourselves knowing that one day we will reign with the King of Kings, never again to leave his side.
