The Deception of Pornography

by Nicholas A. Catania

August 2004

Go to the previous issue.

I'd like to handle the topic of pornography in this issue. This is a sin that is extensive in our country, but it is protected by our wonderful government. This sin will and has always weakened any nation in which it was allowed to flourish. Along with the sin of homosexuality, it will contribute greatly to the downfall of mankind, for both are a form of idolatry.

The word pornography comes from the Greek word pornographos. The word pornographos is from pornes (prostitute) plus graphein (to write); thus pornography is "the depiction of erotic behavior (as in pictures or writing) intended to cause sexual excitement."

Pornography is also the depiction of acts in a sensational manner so as to arouse a quick, intense emotional reaction. The devil uses this material to get a calculated response from you. It's called SIN!

Leviticus 19:29 Do not prostitute thy daughter, to cause her to be a whore; lest the land fall to whoredom, and the land become full of wickedness.

The word prostitute in this verse comes from a Hebrew word that means "to profane, defile, pollute, desecrate, to violate the honor of, dishonor." Here we see God's instructions are very clear. God's people were told not to prostitute their daughters, not to defile or make unclean or impure, not to violate or dishonor them, or to pollute or desecrate them.

This is still true today! How can some Christians watch pornography and believe it's O.K.? If you are reading this article and read or look at pornography, you need deliverance. You dishonor God and our Lord Jesus by engaging in this kind of sinful behavior.

The special interest groups and corrupt politicians that get these laws passed to protect this kind of trash, are weakening our country. This is why Satan spends so much time at the White House. If he can get this kind of legislation passed there and protected by our government he can continue to weaken the nation.

The word wickedness in this verse means "device, wickedness, evil plan, and mischievous purpose." What is the evil plan we are up against?

Isaiah 14:12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How art thou cast down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!

One way the devil weakens the nations is through pornography. It is ironic that some of the very men we elected to office to protect and serve are the ones dismantling our nation. What happens when the land becomes full of wickedness? When a nation becomes defiled and polluted? You become an unholy nation.

Leviticus 19:1-2 1And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 2Speak unto all the congregation of the children of Israel , and say unto them, Ye shall be holy: for I am the LORD your God am holy.

Leviticus 20:7-8 7Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be ye holy; for I am the LORD your God. 8And ye shall keep my statutes, and do them: I am the LORD which sanctify you.

What people don't realize is that sin always has consequences.

Deuteronomy 11:26-28 26Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse; 27A blessing, if ye obey the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you this day: 28And a curse, if ye will not obey the commandments of the LORD your God, but turn aside out of the way which I command you this day, to go after other gods, which ye have not known.

Many people curse themselves when they read or look at pornography. What's worse than that is, if they have a family, they are allowing their family to be attacked by the spirits into the homes of America by TV, books, videos, music, and the like. For the most part, parents can't figure out why their children are under such attack.

If you are a parent and you have pornography in your home willingly, including on the stupid computer, you have demons in your home. Most likely, in you. Is that clear enough? God is sick and tired of the excuse of grace. People quote grace and think it gives them a right to sin.

Titus 2:11-12 11For the grace of god that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, 12Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

Now this grace that brings salvation has appeared to all men. Now this grace that brings salvation that has appeared to all men teaches us what? That we should be denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, When? .... Now! ... in this present world!!

I would like to see someone invite Jesus over to look at his or her Playboy collection. I wonder what he would say? I just wonder if they would sneer at him the way some do to me when I teach this honestly and handle subjects others would rather avoid.

Matthew 5: 27-28 27Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, thou shalt not commit adultery; 28But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

What do you think happens when you look at pornography? You lust after that person in your mind, and you have already sinned. Just get honest. You can't look at that stuff and not sin. By its very definition, it is designed to make you sin. Pornography is the depiction of erotic behavior (as in pictures or writing) intended to cause sexual excitement. When you sin, you break fellowship with the Father and our Lord Jesus. Look at I John.

I John 1:6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:

If you think it's O.K. to look at pornography, you will never confess it as a sin and repent of it. So if you have been looking at pornography and are a Christian believer and have not confessed it as a sin and repented of it, you have been out of fellowship as long as you have engaged in this sinful behavior. And some people wonder why some can't get their prayers answered or why the adversary has been able to attack your family so successfully.

I John 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

Denying the sin doesn't get rid of the reality of it.

I John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

It's only confessed sin that the Father cleanses us from. Unconfessed sin still stands and carries consequences.

I have not written this article to judge anyone, but the Lord wants you to know the truth. And the truth here is that pornography is a weapon of Satan to deceive our nation and us. But we seem to want to defend error today to be politically correct. We should have booted President Clinton out of office and removed all his benefits. But, instead, he writes a book and makes millions off of sin. Go figure; only in America.

However, the good news is that God will surely forgive you, if you come clean.

I John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

Jesus' perfect sacrifice has made it available to be cleansed from all sin.

Genesis 1:26-27 26And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. 27So, God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

Man's actions should reflect his creator. When people get wrapped up in pornography, they bring shame to the human body and its maker. The devil wants to pervert the way man views the truth. In doing so, he can and will make inroads to the way we present the truth. This is clearly seen is the book of Isaiah.

Isaiah 5:20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

Romans 1:24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:

God has afforded you the right to make your own decisions. Choose wisely.

Deuteronomy 30:19 I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:ÿ
