In God We Trust

by Nicholas A. Catania

June/July 2017

Go to the previous issue.

Our founding fathers delivered to us a system of government that has enjoyed unprecedented success: we are now the world's longest ongoing constitutional republic. We are well over 200 years under one form of government an accomplishment unknown among contemporary nations.

The last 8 years under the Obama administration has changed the course of our great country. We are rapidly drifting away from our country's biblical foundation. Our freedom to serve God and promote the gospel has been threaten from the very men who swore to defend it. We are engaged in a great spiritual war today and unless the church acts the future of this country is uncertain.

But America has acted and the people of God have come together and elected a godlier president in Donald Trump. He is not perfect nor is he our savior as Obama was referred to on national T.V. However, he is a man who believes "We don't worship government in this country we worship God".

That's a good start and as for Barack Obama he will stand before the SAVIOR Jesus Christ and give account of his policy of change.

2 Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

When we humble ourselves we can remember that God's call to this country and our government was a call to represent God's love and saving grace in Jesus Christ.

Today for the most part higher education instructs our youth to disrespect and treat God with hostility. In light of this the first thing that needs to be done is to teach the youth the truth about our God and our Lord Jesus. If our students operate from a misleading world view they are simply responding from the instruction they have received from their professors.

Once the truth is introduced a person has a choice to make. For many of our young people they have never heard the truth. This is why we need to tell them about Jesus.

Speak the truth to them ….

O Lord our heavenly father high and mighty king of kings and lord of lords, who dost from thy throne behold all the dwellers on earth and reignest with power supreme and uncontrolled over all the kingdoms, empires and government's; look down in mercy, we beseech Thee, on these our united states, who have fled to there from the rod of the oppressor and thrown themselves on the gracious protection, desiring to be henceforth dependent only on thee.To thee have they appealed for the righteousness of their cause; to thee do they now look up for that countenance and support which thou alone canst give.Take them thy heavenly father under thy nurturing care; give them wisdom in counsel and valor in the field; defeat the malicious designs of our cruel adversaries convince them of the unrighteousness of their cause and if they persist in their sanguinary purposes, of own unerring justice, sounding in their hearts, constrain them to drop the weapons of war from their unnerved bands in the day of battle.Be thou present God of wisdom, and direct the councils of the honorable assembly; enable them to settle things on the best and surest foundation. That the scene of blood may be speedily closed; that order, harmony, and peace may be effectually restored, and truth and justice, religion and piety, prevail and flourish amongst the people. Preserve the health of their bodies and the vigor of their minds; shower down on them and the millions they here represent, such temporal blessings as thou seest expedient for them in this world and crown them with everlasting glory in the world to come. All this we ask in the name and through the merits of Jesus Christ, thy son and our savior amen.

This was the first prayer offered in Congress on September 7, 1774 by Jacob Duche. Just how many colleges do you think teach this as part of their curriculum? How many students do you think would be able to identify this prayer its author and its place?

James 4:17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

Our school system has failed our students and that's because our government influences the curriculum for our schools. Our youth has been systematically lied to that America wasn't founded on biblical principles. Most professors and teachers have done their best to dismiss this truth.

However, all the revisionism in the world cannot change this simple truth, America was shaped by the founders thinking and their writings, resulting in the republic we have today. In one of those documents the Declaration of Independence to be exact the source of all authority and rights are identified as originating from "Their Creator" AKA God!

Look at the convictions of some of the founders"

Principally and first of all, I give and recommend my soul into the hands of God that gave it: and my body I recommend to the earth…nothing doubting but at the general resurrection shall receive the same again by the mercy and power of God. John Hancock, signer of the Declaration of Independence.

It cannot be emphasized too clearly that this nation was founded, not by religionist, but by Christians; not on religion, but on the gospel of Jesus Christ. Patrick Henry, governor of Virginia.

We recognize no sovereign but God and no king but Jesus. John Adams and John Hancock.
My only hope of salvation is in the infinite, transcendent love of God manifested to the world by the death of his son upon the cross.
Nothing but his blood will wash away my sins. I rely exclusively upon it. Lord Jesus come quickly! Benjamin Rush, signer of the Declaration of Independence.
"To the glory of his Divine Majesty". First charter of Virginia.

The first permanent settlement was the English colony at Jamestown, in 1607, in what is now Virginia. The first Charter of Virginia emphasizes the Christian character of their purpose.

We greatly commending, and graciously accepting of, their desires for the furtherance of such a noble work, which may, by the providence of almighty God, hereafter tend to the glory of his Divine Majesty, in the propagating of Christian religion to such people, as yet live in darkness and miserable ignorance of the true knowledge and worship of God.

And here in lies the answer not only for the youth, but the teachers of today.

That we by the providence of almighty God, hereafter tend to the glory of his Divine Majesty, in the propagating of Christian religion to such people , as yet live in darkness and miserable ignorance of the true knowledge and worship of God.
KJG John 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

This Fourth of July 2017 purpose in your heart to speak the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ to all.

Psalm 119:103-106 103How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth! 104Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way. 105NUN. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. 106I have sworn, and I will perform it, that I will keep thy righteous judgments.

God's word will still illuminate those who are thirsting and hungering after righteousness. God bless you!
